The police in Lagos State have extended their
search to divisional police stations and area commands for the runaway police
officer, Augustine Gbuchenge, who abducted and brutalised an eight-year-old
girl, Amarachi Abakwam, in Ketu area of the state.
There are also strong insinuations that the man
might be a fake policeman and that he might have been using the police uniform
to deceive people.
Contrary to the belief of the neighbours of the
runaway policeman that he was serving at Mobile 22 Unit, preliminary
investigations had revealed that he was not attached to any mobile unit.
The police in the state, on Monday, sent signals to
all area commands and divisional police stations in the state to check their nominal
roll, so as to check if the runaway police officer was serving in the
state
The image maker in charge of the state police
command, Ngozi Braide, while speaking with the Nigerian Tribune on the
incident, stated that the suspect was, as of 6.30 p.m. on Monday, not yet arrested.
She also stated that preliminary investigations
revealed that the suspect was not serving at any of the mobile police force
units in Lagos State.
