N20 Bribe: Corporal Dismissed For Killing Pregnant Woman

A police corporal, Abudu Alonge, who allegedly shot and killed a pregnant woman over a N20 bribe has been dismissed.
The trigger-happy cop allegedly opened fire on a Nissan Almera car with registration number Ondo KAA 80 AA and the bullet hit the pregnant woman who was in the car and she died before she could be taken to the hospital.
The incident happened along Ijapo Road in Akure, the Ondo state capital, southwest Nigeria, on Tuesday when the driver of the cab reportedly refused to give the policeman the N20 bribe he demanded.
The spokesman of the Ondo State Police Command, Wole Ogodo, confirmed the incident.
He condemned the act and added that it was being investigated.

Eyewitnesses said trouble started when the driver of the cab insisted his documents were up to date and so he would not give Corporal Alonge any bribe. The infuriated cop then opened fire on the cab.
The incident resulted in pandemonium and Alonge took to his heels and was shielded by his colleagues who came to his rescue when a mob wanted to lynch him.
The mob reportedly attacked the Ijapo police post where Corporal Alonge sought refuge.
Mobile policemen later brought the situation under control after shooting in the air to disperse the angry youths.
