The relationship between entertainers and politicians in
Nigeria is moving away from the advocates’ role actors and musicians used to play
as witnessed in the past general elections build ups. The trend now is the influx of Nollywood stars
and Musicians nursing ambitions to vie for one political posts or the other in
the forthcoming general elections.
While some entertainers have openly expressed their ambitions to run
in 2015 without allegiance with any political party yet, others have declared
their interest to run under the one of the giant parties in the country. See why they want to run!
The people want me to run- Julius Agwu
The gongo aso crooner, Abolore Akande widely known as 9ice
has always drummed up his political ambition in the ears of his fans. And to
prepare himself for the task, he registered for an online course in Public Administration at the Minneapolis –based Cappella Univerisity.
Now, nice is set
to represent the people of Ogbomosho at the senate in 2015 as he recently announced his ambition on instagram.
Kate crosses to the Senate
Kate Henshaw too is looking forward to cross-carpeting
from Nollywood to the Senate to rep the people of Cross River state . The
ever-smiling actress is poised to represent the people of Calabar Municipal and
Odukpani area in cross river under the platform of the People’s Democratic
Party. Though some fans dissed the actress for joining politics but the mother
of one is obviously not daunted by anything.
Desperate to give back
As for Desmond Eliot, the desire to give back to the society
through politics inspired his ambition.
The actor expressed disappointment
about the lack of job and poor state of agriculture in the country. This
situation he said requires a lot of things to be done to revive it. And this is
one of the reasons he want to be among the candidates to watch out for in the
forthcoming election. Governor Fashola's performance is another factor responsible for his interest in politics. He said "Politics is another field I am venturing into. Governor Fashola and his predecessor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu have been truly amazing."
Warming up for Senate!
The sudden
disappearance of Yemi Solade from Yoruba Home videos raised a lot of questions
until when a political postal was seen somewhere in Lagos announcing his
readiness for elective position under APC Platform
For Solade it is Home video
to national politics come 2015.
It’s not weird to be a commissioner.
The least person you will expect to embrace politics in entertainment
industry is this maverick artiste. Reports have been going around that weird mc
is being considered for the post of the commissioner for Arts and Cultures in Osun state following the
victory of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola in the
recent gubernatorial election in the state. Obviously it’s a reward of support
and allegiance from the maverick governor to the maverick artiste.
Other artistes may not be showing interest in politics but
the previous elections demonstrated how political aspirants patronized musician and
actors to help them advocate their ambitions to their fans. Among these are Fuji stars like Pasuma, Osupa Saheed, Wasiu Ayinde andAdewale Ayuba
